Gmail, did you just change my default user icon--which I know damn well has been blue--to a pink bubble?  And do I see that Husband's similarly default icon is still blue?

As far as I can tell, there's no way to change the color without uploading an icon. I've sent a scathing email to google about this.

I may have vitriolically asked, in my email, what color people who are not on the gender binary get to have arbitrarily assigned to them. I'm honestly curious, since poking around at the account settings shows me that you can choose "prefer not to state" or add a custom gender.

I mean, who thought this was a good idea? The vast majority of my contacts have an uploaded icon, so it's not like more differentiation was needed.

(Clearly the answer is that the person(s) who decided this were not, in fact, thinking)

Looking at my contacts list, I see orange, pink, and blue for those I know are female.

I see brown, green, and gray for those I know are male.

I don't know what they have marked as gender in google--in the cases of parental units, my guess is they haven't unless it insisted.
