If google serves me well, tonight marks the longest night of the year.  (I have always been a little unclear as to which side of the actual solstice the longest night happens on.)

The past few months feel like a whole lot of curling up into a ball against an endless night.  I've been counting down days until this point, when at least the literal sun will start coming back bit by bit.  It won't be enough, but at least it'll be something. 

I'm not really religious right now--that's a very long and muddly explanation for another time--but I'm going to light some candles tonight anyways.  If nothing else, they can keep me company in the dark.
