Husband and I are continuing to forge through season 8 of Doctor Who (the DVR is under 40% for the first time in...years?).  So, a thought about the last couple episodes:

Can I just say how awesome Clara is this season?  I think she's been the one to save the day in a good half of the episodes so far.  And I am thoroughly enjoying her calling out the Doctor when he's being a prat to people (which, seriously, he's been awful to humans in this incarnation.  Ten and Eleven always had this joy about humankind, like we're a favorite niece or nephew, but Twelve is just a huge misanthrope.  I do not care for this.).

So, episode #9 (Flatline).  Clara has saved the day again and is looking for appreciation/kudos, and the Doctor says a line to the effect of "You made an excellent Doctor.  Good had nothing to do with it."  And walks off with a concerned face, presumably because he's horrified at turning her into him, no not sweet innocent Clara.

Apparently the Doctor forgot that in the episode before this, he told Clara to lie to a woman to manipulate her into cooperating with his plan.  And the episode before that, he left her alone with the decision of WHETHER TO BLOW UP THE MOON/SPACE DRAGON EGG THING.  The decision that apparently launched humankind's journey into the farthest corners of the universe!  So yeah, no, you don't get to be all concerned about Clara's willingness to take charge and make tough moral decisions when you yourself have been pushing her in that direction.  I swear he's only all ruffled about it because this time she was doing it without nearly as much prompting from him.

We still have the last couple episodes to go.  I will be extremely sore with the writers if Clara continues to be awesome and then it backfires horribly and she ultimately Learns Her Lesson about trying to usurp Mr. White Male Authority Figure.  *harumph*

P.S.: Was it racist that the Doctor kept telling Danny he couldn't be a math teacher, he had to be a P.E. teacher?  It felt racist to me, but then in the US we're only recently starting to pull away from the idea that black football players can only play certain positions that are more athletic-based than intelligence-based.  Maybe the UK is better.  I sure hope so.

It felt a little racist to me too. And yes, Clara is awesome now, and I really don't like how they wrote a Doctor who hates everything/everybody.
