korafox: wheat field with cypresses (Default)

Whee, haven't posted for like two weeks now. Well, been kinda busy running around and dealing with massive amounts of paperwork (in Japanese, mind you). So it keeps happening that I'm too tired at the end of the day to write. Well.

Went to Hiroshima for our prefectural conference earlier this week. The conference itself was not surpassingly helpful (what would be helpful is finding out which schools we're teaching at, darn it), but it was interesting to see the city. Actually, I didn't do all that much traditional sightseeing. Probably sometime next month I'll go in for a Carp game and go around to the peace park and all.
What I did get to do was see the new Ghibli film on a giant screen. It was ridiculously adorable, and because the main character was a 5-year-old boy, I actually understood the majority of the dialogue. *whee*

Today has been both an utterly sucky and very awesome day depending on when you caught me. It was raining on the way to work, and I had to go back to my apartment again because I forgot a form that had to be turned in today. But then, I had packed a bento lunch so I got to stay in the nice quiet office and read a book over lunch rather than have to navigate the crowded department store to get food from their grocery there.
Got to practice my Japanese vocabulary--armed with the word "seiritsuu" I braved a drugstore. I was much relieved (after the uncomfortableness said word had been causing me all day) that as soon as I said that to the nice old man behind the counter, he did not go all embarassed or stare at the gaijin, but immediately got me the correct moonspeak-covered box and rang me up.
(random kanji knowledge: having now seen it written out, the kanji for "seiritsuu" could mean something like, "the price of life pain". I like this. It gives the whole thing an air of martyrdom that does not feel inappropriate while in the midst of it.)

Further nice things about today: I found where the copic markers are hiding in the top floor of the Caspa department store! Have already spent about 5500 yen on 14 markers, and signed up for a points card as I am sure every couple weeks I will be back. The pretty colors~~~
And I got an ear of corn and made veggie curry for dinner. Yum, yum. :)

We are going to language camp next week. I think I will bring my laptop now that I have a spiffy new bag that it fits well in, but I do not know the state of internet connection there. Please try not to get into a war with Russia while I'm gone, kthxbai?

Aaah, cooking skills! o_O I would most certainly be the type subsisting on junk food from the supermarket. ^^;

You know, it's funny because the day we were in Hong Kong and supposed to visit the stock exchange, it rained and due to that we had to navigate through the grocery store. :O No bento though. I don't remember what we had for lunch. ^^;

Pictures soon? :D
