Oct. 8th, 2008 08:28 amSeveral things, starting from the most recent:
I am watching the town hall debate between Obama and McCain. Aside from anything particularly political about it, I had a sudden mental connection regarding McCain as I listened to him speak. It's not quite as pronounced, but just listen and tell me if he doesn't sound like Gopher from Winnie the Pooh? The whistle in his speech is starting to get on my nerves, anyway.
Someone online is reporting that McCain said the phrase "my friends" 21 times. Who knows if that's the correct number, but I think this offense may be added to the list of things that deserve a gong when I fulfill my master plan to merge political debates with the Gong Show.
The optimism and bravado of my fellow internet denizens astounds and impresses me. Already I am seeing bumper stickers and other campaign ad paraphernalia with "That One 2008" all over it...who knows if this could be a big rallying wave online? (Not that Obama needs it from this demographic at this point.)
Yesterday there was a stray cat sitting outside the convenience store. While I was parking my bike, it was staring at me, then flopped on its back, stuck its tummy at me, and starting mowwing. Yes, I know, not supposed to touch strays, but it was so obviously an ex-domestic cat that I went ahead anyway. The poor thing really seemed like it needed affection...it came up and practically wrapped around my legs. I feel bad that I couldn't give it any more than a few minutes of pettins.
The view from one of my middle schools has been astoundingly beautiful the past few days. For those in the states who follow anime, there is a new Studio Ghibli movie that just came out here and will probably come out in America within a year--"Gake no ue no Ponyo" (Ponyo on top of the cliff). Apparently the town that my middle school is in is a favorite spot of Hayao Miyazaki, and the scenery in Ponyo is based off of it. Which has led to my nickname for the middle school: "Gake no ue no gakkou" (school on top of the cliff), because it takes 10-15 minutes of walking straight up a mountain to get there from the bus stop. But the scenery is just gorgeous...you can see the ocean and nearby islands from the front of the school building.
26 days left until the election. Early voting for the win!
