Jul. 28th, 2008 06:42 pmDay 1 of orientation!
Got to sit around in very uncomfortable chairs for three hours in the morning. This was not very good planning on the part of the organizers seeing as most of us had been on 10+ hour flights the day before. But the afternoon was pretty interesting, and we got to go around to different panels. The first one I went to (One-shot Teaching), I sat perplexed by why the presenter seemed familiar to me. Then I realized that the cadence of his speech and his body language were almost spot on for the ninja from the Ask a Ninja videos. I just looked it up and he's not the same guy of course, but still, weirdness.
After the welcome reception they had for us my prefecture all went out to a karaoke bar down the street. It was so much fun to let loose and sing at the top of our lungs (twenty people in a small room can be very loud if they want to. Especially with tambourines). So I can see why karaoke is so popular; it's a really good stress reliever after a day of uncomfortable shoes and business attire. :p
Oh, and when we came out of the place we stopped to take a picture of everyone all together, and a couple of Japanese guys came up and asked if they could take a picture with them in it too. Which was kind of neat. ^_^
Found out this morning that one of the other girls in my prefecture plays RPGs. She's not in my city but it was cool to find someone with similar interests and have the possiblity of doing some RPing while I'm over here.
More meetings! Laters~
