Apr. 9th, 2006 10:12 pmWhere to begin...?
I have a roommate for next year; I met her in the line at the housing lottery. She seems nice enough though, and the "roommate statement" our Res Life department sends to everyone afterward reassured me...she says she does not like parties, and is reasonably tomboyish. ; ) Which of course I can identify with...I just am slightly disappointed over the whole thing because I am aware that we will probably not become the bestest of friends like Ras or Kris and I were. But I am sure she has her circles as I have mine, and I foresee that we will get along fine.
Got back my art history test...90/100. Which is overall not a bad score, but which means I will need a solid "A" grade on the final to get an A in the course. Well, I am not worried about it at the moment. That's about three weeks away yet...and I won't need to start studying for a bit yet. I hope Professor Garvey is alright; he sent us an email saying our Monday class was cancelled due to a family emergency and I know his wife was not very well last semester...
D&D was most excellent; at least my poor dear Kilian was not verbally abused too badly by Arc as Matt was not there to play him. ;D And an interesting moral dilemma was brought up as well. To lay the stage, our characters live in a nation which is physically separated from pretty much anywhere else. We worship the three "good" gods of Justice, Nature, and Healing, who are the patron deities of the divine magics. They're diametrically opposed to three "evil" gods of the arcane magics, and there's a lot of prejudice against all forms of arcane magic in our lands...such that we have a barren space we throw all "heretics" into. This comprises people who speak against the church as well as those who display sorcerous tendencies (sorcerors will develop marks on their skin as they enter adolescence).
Well, the bottom line is that our characters were forced straight up against the realization that our churches have done some pretty ghastly things to those they consider "sinners". And we were presented with a choice of loyalty to our nation or siding with the heretics (although this choice had no actual bearing on the campaign as of yet). But though my character chose loyalty for the time being, I wonder...what truly goes through his mind? Growing up in a place where the sole authoritative power has said one thing all his life. And because he follows the god of healing, his soul is of a compassionate nature. But how does he truly feel? Does he see the sorcerors as sinners, yet take pity on them? Would he be willing to stand up to his church to help them? And I cannot reconcile the fact that he probably does see their magic as sin...for I, myself, am not of that mindset.
So many questions, to which I do not yet have the answers...yet perhaps they will become apparent as I play more with my dearest Kilian.
